Rodrigo “Rudy” Merones Funeral Mass

Rodrigo “Rudy” Merones, age 63 of Waupaca, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. He was born on November 16, 1957 in the Philippines to the late Agaton and Juana (Soberano) Merones. On May 5, 1982 he married his love, Nilda Sumagui. Rudy was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2015. He and Nilda came to the United States on November 13, 2015 where he continued his dialysis treatment in Waupaca. He waited 5 years for a kidney transplant and received his new kidney in July of 2020. Rudy loved being outdoors, cooking, shopping, working, and was known for his handiwork. Family was most important to him.

Rudy is survived by his wife Nilda; children: Jenifer (Eugene) Barbeau, Janice Merones, Genevieve (Erwin) Buenaobra, Julie Ann Merones; grandchildren: Justin and Calvin Barbeau, Joaquin Inigo Merones, Alexandra Venice Merones; siblings: Perlita Dula, Rolando Merones, Jomar Merones, Mylene Merones, Charry Merones; brother-in-law Arance Mendoza; sister-in-law Rosita Merones. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Efren Merones and sister Precila Mendoza.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca, with Fr. Xavier Santiago officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. For those planning to attend, please wear a face mask and practice social distancing, thank you.
