Jerome Duane Zabel

Age 86, of Weyauwega, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Lakeview Manor in Weyauwega. He was born on May 1, 1929, in the Town of Lind, Waupaca County, son of the late Gerhard and Viola (Winter) Zabel. He was confirmed at St. Peter on April 18, 1943. Jerome graduated from Weyauwega High School. On November 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Irma Bachmann at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. Jerome farmed in the Town of Lind his entire life. He was faithful member of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church serving nine years on the church council and six years as vice president. Jerome served on the Board of Directors for the Weyauwega Co-op for 21 years; serving six years as president. In 1975, he received the Progressive Farm Award for Waupaca County; he was also on the East Lind Volunteer Fire Department for many years serving as Captain, and he served as secretary/treasurer for the East Lind Telephone Line. Jerome enjoyed hunting and fishing, and camping at his favorite campground, Rollingstone Lake Resort. He will always be remembered for his nice smile.

He is survived by his wife Irma; son: Duane Zabel, Weyauwega; brothers: Gordon (Carol) Zabel, Carlton (Diane) Zabel; brother-in-law: Calvin (Betty) Nehring. . He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Virgil Zabel.

The Christian Funeral for Jerome will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Lemke and Rev. Newlin Schafer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Weyauwega. A visitation for Jerome will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
