Erwin 'Erv' Mittelstaedt

Erwin “Erv” Mittelstaedt, age 95, of Manawa, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the Manawa Community Living Center. He was born on July 7, 1922, in the Town of Little Wolf, son of the late August and Helene (Mundt) Mittelstaedt. Erv attended grade school in the Vaughan School District and graduated from Little Wolf High School in Manawa in 1940. He was employed by Lindberg Eng. Company in Chicago until he was drafted to serve his country with the U.S. Army on October 24, 1942. He served in New Guinea, Leyte and Luzon in the Philippines, and also Japan. He was honorably discharged on January 22, 1946. He was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa where he married Eileen Sheldon on July 22, 1944. Erv is survived by his wife of 73 years, Eileen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service for Erv will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating. Burial will be in Little Wolf Cemetery in the Town of Little Wolf. A visitation for Erv will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
