Eleonora Hanson

December 8, 1916 — February 23, 2007

Age 90, of Manawa, died peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2007. She was born on December 8, 1916, in the Town of Union, Waupaca County, and was the daughter of the late Herman and Bertha (Gruel) Lange. She grew up in the Town of Union and attended the State Road School. She graduated from Little Wolf High School with the Class of 1934. She then attended Stevens Point College to become a teacher. She began her teaching career in 1935 at Sunrise School near Marion. In 1939 she taught at Lake Michael School, also near Marion. On December 8, 1939, she married Philip D. Hanson at Symco, Wisconsin. They then began farming. Over the next eight years, they rented farms near Big Falls, in Helvetia and St. Lawrence Townships. In 1947 they moved to their farm in the Town of Union and there they raised their family. Eleonora resumed her teaching career in 1955 at Stony Ridge School in Helvetia. In 1958, she taught Marble School in the Town of Union and then at Rexford School in Clintonville, until her retirement in 1982. They continued farming until Phil passed away on February 16, 1987. Eleonora moved to Manawa in February of 1993 and resided there until this February. She enjoyed her family, her many school students, gardening, fishing, needlework, some traveling and especially playing cards with her friends. Eleonora was an avid reader. She was a life-long member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco and their Ladies Aid, also the Waupaca County Retired Teachers' Association.

She is survived by her sons Donald, Manawa; Dale, Clintonville; her sister Ethel Buschke, Manawa; brother and sister-in-law, Dean (Ila) Hanson, Appleton; sister-in-law, Carol Hanson, Oshkosh. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Eleonora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Philip, a brother Alfred Lange, and two sisters Violet Schoen and Lode Kussman; sister-in-law, Fern Lange; brothers-in-law, La Vern Hanson, Earl Buschke, Harvey Schoen, and Elmer Kussman.

She enjoyed her 90th birthday celebration last December. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco with Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Symco. Friends may call at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa on Monday, February 26, 2007, from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
